My name is Nicola and I’m The Secret Crocheter – to be honest this is possibly the worst kept secret of all time!
I live in Wiltshire with my husband Frank and, as well as crochet, I love cups of tea, chocolate biscuits and bird watching.
Crochet is definitely in my blood; both my Mum and Nan can crochet - it was actually my Mum who taught me when I was about 9 years old. And thank goodness she did, as I really don’t know where I’d be without it.
I’ve never really considered myself to be overly artistic or creative but being a primary school teacher for the past 16 years, I suppose I must have been! I started to crochet as a kind of stress reliever from the pressures of the day job.
And so, The Secret Crocheter was born.
Fast forward a few years and these days you’ll find me in The Crochet Cabin teaching other people how to crochet or running my own workshops (I knew all those years of being in education would come in handy one day!)
When I’m not teaching, I’m designing new patterns and kits, or crocheting gifts – all of which I sell at local craft markets, through some local shops and also on Etsy.
Crochet is a huge part of my life and I’m passionate about sharing the crochet love with as many people as possible. I love showing people all the wonderful things you can do with crochet, and I love writing patterns which are easy to follow and accessible. And most of all, I love Making it Cool to Crochet!
If you’d like to learn to crochet, or come to one of my workshops or events, please do get in touch – I’d love to meet you.

1-2-1 this morning, really enjoyed it. I am left handed and been struggling with crochet for a few years, within a very short time Nicola has sorted me out and I’ve got the bug. You’re an excellent teacher Nicola as well as a nice person. Thank you

Whilst waiting for a date for a 1-2-1 with Nicola I had watched YouTube videos and had started learning and practising the stitches. YouTube was great and I even managed a gorgeous scarf, but it didn't compare to the session with Nicola today. Nicola, The Cabin and The Secret Stash shop were all fabulous.
With the YouTube videos I was struggling to remember the name of the stitches, but today I have come away clear guides containing links to great videos for flowers, hearts and stars. It's so much better being able to answer questions and focus on the things you're not sure of, and it's great to actually make something that I can use as gift tags or little presents.
I would thoroughly recommend having a session with Nicola and I look forward to joining her for workshops and Yarn and Yap sessions in the future. - Emma and Louise·
Nicola's teaching was brilliant, and the set up in her cosy little crochet cabin was just lovely. The two of us fully intend to visit again - once we've had a couple of goes at the starter scarf!!
